Split a list of addresses into routes for each driver.
Paste one address per line, choose how many drivers you have, and get a balanced list for each person with nearby ZIP codes kept together. It runs entirely in your browser.
The interactive tool runs in your browser with no account and no map requests.
How the split works
The splitter reads the five-digit ZIP code at the end of each address, sorts the list by ZIP, and cuts it into as many equal parts as you have drivers. When a cut would land in the middle of a ZIP, it moves to the nearest ZIP boundary as long as each driver stays within about a fifth of an even share. The result keeps a neighborhood with one person most of the time while keeping the counts fair.
What it does not do
ZIP order is only a rough stand-in for geography. Two ZIPs that sort next to each other can be on opposite sides of a river, and the splitter does not know where any address actually is, how long each visit takes, or whether a customer was promised a time. It also does not put each driver's stops in driving order. Treat the output as a first draft you check against a map.
Getting a real route from the draft
- Download the CSV. It has Worker, Stop name, Full address and Notes columns.
- Open a plan in StopHarbor, choose Import and upload the file; the columns are recognized automatically.
- Create workers named Driver 1, Driver 2 and so on, or rename them in the CSV first, so each stop lands with the right person.
- Calculate. StopHarbor geocodes every address, puts each driver's stops in road order and shows anything that does not fit their day.
Formatting tips
One stop per line. To keep a customer name or notes with an address, separate fields with a tab (pasting straight from a spreadsheet does this) or with a space, a vertical bar and a space: Smith residence | 412 Oak St, Austin, TX 78704 | 9-11am | gate code 4471. Lines without a ZIP are listed separately so nothing disappears silently.
Questions
Is my address list uploaded anywhere?
No. The splitting happens in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to StopHarbor or a map service until you choose to import the CSV into a plan.
How many addresses can I split?
Up to 500 lines and up to 50 drivers in the free tool. A StopHarbor Team plan routes up to 80 stops across ten route workers per calculation.
Why not split by distance instead of ZIP?
Distance needs every address geocoded, which costs money per lookup. The free tool avoids that. StopHarbor's Auto assignment divides stops by actual location once you import them.
